Frequently Asked QuestionsIf you have any other questions regarding the Management Excellence Awards that are not listed below, please email the State Coordinator or call 0438 131 649.
No, the Management Excellence Awards are open to all managers regardless of their organisational or personal affiliations. You do not have to be an AIM member to nominate a manager that stands out in a crowd.
As a high level business professional why should I nominate? The Awards are one of the few Award programs in Australia that recognise individual management and leadership endeavours at all levels of an organisation. A nomination is recognition of an individual's achievements and a chance to create a role model for other managers as they build their own career. It is also a chance for nominees to thank those people who have helped them along the way.
Is there a fee to enter the Awards? No! Unlike other award programs there are no costs associated with participation in the Management Excellence Awards, thanks to the generous support of our Award Sponsors. The Australian Institute of Management also covers the cost of flights for regional Queensland winners and their partner to attend the Queensland State Judging and Gala Final in November, as well as the cost of accommodation for this period. If short listed as a finalist you are invited to attend the Gala State Final as the guest of AIM.
How long have the Awards been run? These prestigious Awards have been run in Queensland and the Northern Territory for over 15 years to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of managers and leaders. This year Victoria and South Australia join the Management Excellence Awards to lead the search for Australia’s best managers.
I don’t have a resume and don’t have the time to put one together? AIM can help you here! Our website has an online resume builder that you can fill out online. Go to Awards Process and click on Career Profiler. If you need help just contact the Awards Coach. See Contact Us for details.
How long does it take to complete an application? Once nominees have confirmed their participation in the Awards they will be required to complete an application and lodge it for judging by Thursday 31 July 2008. The application should take no more than 3 - 4 hours to complete, unless you already have a current resume in which case it should be less. Should you require assistance there is a dedicated Awards Coach available to answer any questions you may have.
How can the Awards Coach help me? The Awards Coach is available to assist, support and encourage you in compiling your Application. Your coach can help you use the Career Profiler, suggest points to include in your submission and assist you in addressing the “Application category criteria”. Although your coach can’t put your application together for you they are there to help you through every step of the way!
What if I lose? Being nominated is a significant achievement in itself, demonstrating that others recognise your value to your organisation and the profession of management in general. It also provides your organisation with wide-reaching profile as part of the Awards' promotion activities. If you are nominating yourself , participation in the Awards provides you with an opportunity to take a look at your business from a different angle as well as increase your business profile. In the end, the only people who lose are those that do not try!
Who are the judges? The judging panels consist of highly regarded business leaders who have an understanding of your business region. Each judging panel is required to operate within a very strict set of guidelines. Consequently achieving short-listing and participating in the judging process is a significant achievement first at the regional level, (in Queensland only) and at the state level.
Where are the Awards offered? At the moment the Awards are held in Queensland, the Northern Territory, Victoria and South Australia but as the groundswell of interest increases, so too does the likelihood of the Awards going completely national. If you wish to express your interest in having the Management Excellence Awards introduced to your state or territory please email your local AIM division.
