Northern Territory's business managers and leaders were recognised for their achievements at the prestigious 2003 Australian Institute of Management, Management Excellence Awards (MEA) on Friday 10 October 2003.

The Management Excellence Awards were instigated 14 years ago to recognise the vision, achievement and skill of managers in Northern Territory, and resurrected by the Australian Institute of Management after three years absence, when it was realised how much these Awards meant to the local business community.

"The MEAs recognise that good management occurs throughout the country, and is not confined to the big cities. Winners in the past have come from a huge variety of occupations and industries, but what sets them apart is their attention to management excellence on a day-to-day basis," said chair of the MEAs and General Manager of Corporate Express, Ms Sharyn Sherrington.

"Participation across the territory was strong this year. Of the 60 applications, 19 finalists were interviewed by a panel of three judges drawn from the local business community, who chose individual winners from four categories," said Ms Sherrington.

"The MEAs are an opportunity to recognise the endeavours of those leaders who try to better the way they do business everyday. Their innovations are critical in the competitive market and we rely on them to develop a successful business culture," Ms Sherrington said.

"The ability to manage and lead is a vital, and to do so with inspiration is even more challenging. The winners tonight were chosen for their ability to lead by example, to build loyalty, and ensure sustainability by using 'good behaviour' to drive the bottom line. Corporate Australia would do well to look to these four winners for inspiration," said Ms Sherrington.
