New Awards Coach Appointed

The Australian Institute of Management is proud to introduce the 2006 Management Excellence Awards Coach, Ms Cheryl Andersen. We spoke to the AIM regional committee member and Toowoomba secretariat about her role in the Awards.

What is the role of an Awards Coach?

As the MEA Awards Coach, I personally contact each of the Queensland nominees to talk about the application process, encourage them to take part in the Awards and offer general assistance to applicants.

What do you hope to achieve as Awards Coach?

I hope to build on what is already a signature event for AIM and continue to develop the event in Queensland, with high quality candidates, judges and regional events.

Who can participate in the Awards?

Anyone who lives and works in Queensland can nominate or be nominated for the Awards. There are four categories, Professional Manager of the Year, Owner Manager of the Year, Young Manager of the Year and Rural/Remote Manager of the Year.

What should nominees know about the Management Excellence Awards?

The Management Excellence Awards are the only business awards that recognise individual excellence and achievement. The Awards process has been designed with the time-poor manager in mind and while the application and judging process is quite detailed, it should not be time intensive.

In my conversations with previous nominees I am struck by the many comments of how enjoyable the whole process was. It is not often a busy manager takes the time to reflect on his or her achievements and effectiveness as a manager and the awards process provides an opportunity to do just that.
