Best in Northern Territory Management Announced
Northern Territory's brightest managerial talents - in fields from advertising to defence - were announced during the Northern Territory Management Excellence Awards Final and Gala Dinner on Saturday 13 October 2007.
The prestigious awards, presented by the Australian Institute of Management - Qld & NT, recognise business leaders and managers who have achieved personal and professional excellence.
AIM's 2007 winners included Jim Bamber from the Power and Water Corporation (Professional Manager of the Year – Public Sector); Paul Mahoney from Regional and Northern Maintenance Services (Professional Manager of the Year – Private Sector); Steven Rowe from SRA Information Technology (Owner Manager of the Year) and Katherine Thomson from Energy 2 Go (Young Manager of the Year).
Chair AIM NT Council, Marie-Louise Pearson FAIM said judges were impressed by the high calibre of finalists, representing a diverse range of organisations and industry sectors.
"All categories were hard-fought and the winning NT managers this year showed their ability to identify niche markets, retain quality staff, and balance professional and personal commitments while building successful business organisations."
Jim Bamber from the Power and Water Corporation was praised for his exceptional management skills and committed customer focus. Judges said Mr Bamber was an instigator of change, a strong project manager and an exceptional leader.
Paul Mahoney, Chief Executive Officer of Regional and Northern Maintenance Services, was congratulated for demonstrating an impressive range of highly-developed management skills. Judges said Mr Mahoney had seen the business through major structural change and significant growth over the past 12 months.
Steven Rowe from SRA Information Technology was chosen for demonstrating strong strategic leadership and management skills within a team-oriented environment. Judges said the evolution of Mr Rowe's business from a sole trader to more than 80 staff was clear proof of his sense of ownership and business commitment.
Katherine Thomson from Energy 2 Go was singled out for her determination and vision in establishing her business in a highly competitive market. Ms Thomson started her business from scratch one year ago and hopes to create an Australia-wide franchise.
"Over the past two years, The NT Division has experienced their best growth in years, and it does not look like slowing down," Ms Pearson said.
