Awards ProcessStreamlined! Simple!Jump to:
Time – Time – Time - we are all starved for time. The professionals who have formulated the Awards Process at the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) are time-poor managers themselves and intimately understand the challenges that all managers face in their hectic schedule. Managers of excellence are, by definition, extremely busy people. With this in mind, we have streamlined the Awards process for participants. It is rigorous, as suits such a prestigious award, but it need not be time-intensive. And what time it does take is more than repaid one hundred fold by the immense array of benefits you will have experienced by the end. Ron Kerkwyk, Manager of Herbert Cane Productivity Services Ltd told us that he found the total process convenient and effortless: “ Working in a rural industry, and being very busy, having a program that would work with my requirements made the whole experience easy and painless. … very professionally run, both at a regional and state level.” Below, we have mapped out the Awards Process, step-by-step, and have even included the approximate time each task should take. If you are nominating your outstanding manager, then be assured that you are not loading him or her up with extra baggage to fit into their already crowded day. You are, in fact, empowering them in all aspects of their life. If you are a Nominee, then set aside a moment now to scan the process, note the approximate times, consider the benefits – to you personally, to your business and to your community - and you will see that this could just be the most productive time you will spend this year. Stage 1 - Nominating and ApplyingNominatingPlease note that nominations close in all States on Monday 14 July 2008. To nominate yourself, or to nominate another, complete a nomination form.
aPPLICATION PROCESSPlease note that Applications close in all states on Thursday 31 July 2008. When your Nomination is received you will be contacted by the Awards Coach and a formal Application Pack, which comprehensively outlines requirements for the application, will be sent to the nominee. The application is the formal written submission that includes the nominee’s resume and written responses to the set of category criteria. Submit your application as soon as it is completed – you do not need to wait until close of nominations.
To request an Application Pack, or for help completing the Application Pack, simply contact the Management Excellence Awards Coach on 13 16 48. Stage 2 - Short-ListingAugust 2008This is when the calibre of your application will really count. On the basis of your application a judging panel will short list the applicants who will progress to the Final judging interviews. (If you are a Queensland nominee you will progress to the Regional Finals with winners going on to compete at the State Finals.) We will personally contact you at this time to advise you if you have been successful in winning through as a Finalist with details of your judging day and times. AIM will then contact your nominated referees and submit the reference check, along with your application, to the panel of judges. Stage 3 and 4 - Queensland Only

| Tip: Apart from getting to know you, and discussing your application, the Judging Panel will ask you a pre-determined set of questions relevant to your category. All regional finalists around Queensland will be asked the same set of questions. The judging protocols and assessment method used by the local Judging Panel are pre-determined and standardised. |
Now comes the nerve-wracking fun as you attend your regional Awards Presentation. Please note that the format and time will vary between regions and will be advised with your invitation. Refer to the Calendar of Events on this website for details of your Regional Gala Final.
The Regional Managers of the Year, covering Professional, Owner, Young and Rural & Remote, will be announced at these prestigious events.
The shortlisted finalists will be judged with a personal interview with the State Judging Panel. The judges then have the often daunting task of determining the winner of each category, based on the results of the personal interview.
All short listed finalists will be advised well in advance of the date, time and place of their interviews.

"The MEA process was well organised and professionally run. It gave me an insight into AIM as an organisation – practises what it preaches. As a nominee, I found the nomination process uplifting and not too time-consuming."
