Awards Process

Jump to:

Managers of excellence are, by definition, extremely busy people. With this in mind, the Awards organisers at the Australian Institute of Management (AIM) have streamlined the Awards process for participants.

It is rigorous, as suits such a prestigious award, but it need not be time-intensive. And what time it does take is more than repaid by the immense array of benefits you will have experienced by the end of the MEA journey.

If you are nominating your outstanding manager, then be assured that you are not loading him or her up with extra work to fit into their already crowded day. You are, in fact, empowering them in all aspects of their life.

If you are a Nominee, then set aside a moment now to scan the process, consider the benefits – to you personally, to your business and to your community - and you will see that this could just be the most productive time you will spend this year.

Stage 1 - Nominating and Applying

Nominating

To nominate yourself, or to nominate another, complete a nomination form or nominate online.

Nominations close June 30 2010.

aPPLICATION PROCESS

When your Nomination is received you will be contacted by the Awards Coach and a formal Application Pack, which comprehensively outlines requirements for the application, will be sent to the nominee.

The application is the formal written submission which is completed online that includes the nominee’s resume and written responses to the set of category criteria.

Submit your application as soon as it is completed – you do not need to wait until close of nominations.

Regions
For the purpose of the Management Excellence Awards, Queensland is divided into nine regions:

  • Brisbane - covers Brisbane City Council and Ipswich City Council
  • Gold Coast - covers Gold Coast City Council and Logan City Council (including Beenleigh)
  • Sunshine Coast - covers Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Caboolture, west to Kingaroy and North to Harvey Bay.
  • Cairns
  • Townsville
  • Mackay
  • Rockhampton
  • Gladstone
  • Toowoomba

The designation of regional allocations is at the discretion of the Awards Coach.

Stage 2 - Short-Listing

JULY/august 2009

This is when the calibre of your application will really count. On the basis of your application a judging panel will short list the applicants who will progress to the Final judging interviews. If you are a Queensland nominee you will progress to the Regional Finals with winners going on to compete at the State Finals.

We will personally contact you at this time to advise you if you have been successful in winning through as a Finalist with details of your judging day and times. AIM will then contact your nominated referees and submit the reference check, along with your application, to the panel of judges.

Stage 3 - Regional Judging - Queensland Only

August 2009

Refer to the Calendar of Events for the date of judging in your region.

Things are really hotting up now. The Regional Finalists will be invited to attend a personal interview with a Judging Panel in their particular region. Don’t worry – everyone there is looking for the best in each of you!

We leave nothing to chance or to the last minute and you can be assured that you will be advised well in advance of the date, time and place of your interview.

Stage 4 - Regional Management Excellence Awards Finals - Queensland Only

September 2009

Now comes the nerve-wracking fun as you attend your regional Awards Presentation. Please note that the format and time will vary between regions and will be advised with your invitation. Refer to the Calendar of Events for details of your Regional Gala Final.

The Regional Managers of the Year, covering Professional, Owner, Young and Rural & Remote, will be announced at these prestigious events.

Stage 5 – Northern Territory Judging and Final

SATURDAY 10 October 2009 - GALA DINNER

In the Territory, judging day and the gala dinner are held at separate times. The judging is still to be set for 2009, however the gala dinner is confirmed for Saturday 10 October 2009.

Hold your breath and hold on to your hats, as winners for each category – Professional Manager - Private Sector, Professional Manager - Public Sector, Owner Manager and Young Manager, will be announced at the gala dinner.

Stage 6 - Queensland State Judging and Final

FRIDAY 13 NOVEMBER 2009

Regional finalists in each of the four categories will be invited to Brisbane to attend a day of judging and the Management Excellence Awards gala event that evening.

As a Regional Winner, AIM will arrange and pay for travel and accommodation for you and your guest, as our special guests, to attend the Queensland Management Excellence State Final in Brisbane. Flight arrangements will be made from your nearest airport within Queensland.

You and your guest will then be celebrated VIP guests at the Gala Black Tie Dinner, held on the evening of final judging in Brisbane.

The Managers of the Year across all categories will be announced during the course of the Gala Dinner.

In addition, the recipient of the Medal for Management Innovation will be presented with their award.

All finalists will be advised well in advance of the date, time and place of their interviews.

"The MEA process was well organised and professionally run. It gave me an insight into AIM as an organisation – practises what it preaches. As a nominee, I found the nomination process uplifting and not too time-consuming."
