Managers of excellence are, by definition, extremely busy people. With this in mind, the Awards organisers at the Australian Institute of Management have streamlined the Awards process for participants.

It is rigorous, as fits such a prestigious award, but it’s not intended to be time-intensive. And what time it does take is more than repaid by the immense array of benefits you will have experienced by the end of the MEA journey.

If you are nominating your outstanding manager, rest assured that you are not loading him or her up with extra work to fit into their already crowded schedule. You are, in fact, empowering them in all aspects of their life.

If you are a Nominee, then set aside a moment now to scan the process, consider the benefits – to you personally, to your business and to your community - and you will see that this could just be the most productive time you will spend this year.

Stage 1 - Nominations

To nominate yourself, or to nominate another, complete a nomination form or nominate online. The main categories of the awards are Professional, Owner, Young and Rural/Remote Manager of the Year, with some special additions across different regions.

Regions

For the purpose of the Management Excellence Awards, Queensland is divided into nine regions:

  • Brisbane - covers Brisbane City Council and Ipswich City Council
  • Gold Coast - covers Gold Coast City Council and Logan City Council (including Beenleigh)
  • Sunshine Coast - covers Sunshine Coast Regional Council, Caboolture, west to Kingaroy and North to Harvey Bay.
  • Cairns
  • Townsville
  • Mackay
  • Rockhampton
  • Gladstone
  • Toowoomba

The designation of regional allocations is at the discretion of the Awards Coach.

Stage 2 - Applications

When a Nomination is received the nominee will be contacted by the Awards Coach and will be forwarded details of access to the online application site, which includes a comprehensive outline of application requirments.

The application is the formal written submission which is completed online that includes the nominee’s resume and written responses to the set of category criteria.

Submit your application as soon as it is completed – you do not need to wait until close of nominations.

Stage 3 - Judging

Short-Listing

This is when the calibre of your application will really count. On the basis of your application a judging panel will short list the applicants who will progress to the Final judging interviews. If you are a Queensland nominee you will progress to the Regional Finals with winners going on to compete at the State Finals.

We will personally contact you at this time to advise you if you have been successful in winning through as a Finalist with details of your judging day and times. AIM will contact your nominated referees and submit the reference check, along with your application, to the panel of judges.

Regional Judging - Queensland Only

The Regional Finalists will be invited to attend a personal interview with a Judging Panel in their particular region. Don’t worry – everyone there is looking for the best in each of you!

Apart from getting to know you, and discussing your application, the Judging Panel will ask you a pre-determined set of questions relevant to your category. All regional finalists around Queensland will be asked the same set of questions. The judging protocols and assessment method used by the local Judging Panel are pre-determined and standardised.

Refer to the Calendar of Events for the date of judging in your region.

Stage 4 - Regional Awards Finals - Queensland Only

The Regional Managers of the Year, covering Professional, Owner, Young and Rural & Remote, will be announced at these prestigious events.

Now comes the nerve-wracking fun as you attend your regional Awards Presentation. Please note that the format and time will vary between regions and will be advised with your invitation. Refer to the Calendar of Events for details of your Regional Gala Final.

Stage 5 - State and Territory Finals

Northern Territory Final and Gala Dinner – Saturday 2 October 2010

In the Territory, judging day and the Gala Dinner Final are held at separate times. Refer to the Calendar of Events for details of the Northern Territory judging date.

Hold your breath and hold on to your hats, as winners for each category – Professional Manager - Private Sector, Professional Manager - Public Sector, Owner Manager and Young Manager, will be announced at the fabulous Gala dinner.

Guests will enjoy an entertaining and enlightening address from a prominent keynote speaker as they celebrate in style at this prestigious Awards event.

Queensland State Judging and Final – Friday 12 November 2010

Regional finalists in each of the four categories will be invited to Brisbane to attend a day of judging and the Management Excellence Awards gala event that evening.

As a Regional Winner, AIM will arrange and pay for travel and accommodation for you and your guest, as our special guests, to attend the Queensland Management Excellence State Final in Brisbane.

You and your guest will then be celebrated VIP guests at the Gala Black Tie Dinner, held on the evening of final judging in Brisbane.

You will enjoy entertainment, fine food, the company of Queensland’s who’s who of business and fellow finalists as you receive the ‘rock star treatment’ at this spectacular event.

The Managers of the Year across all categories will be announced during the course of the Gala Dinner. In addition, the recipient of the Medal for Management Innovation will be presented with their award.

“The journey was indeed rewarding and thought provoking. I thought the entire process was organised and structured in a professional and highly efficient manner. I commend AIM on the awards, the precision of the organisation and the engagement of managers across the state.”
