Jim is General Manager, Retail Services with the Power and Water Corporation. He sees his three major achievements as being;

* Guiding Retail Services through the 'dark days' of implementing a new billing system

* Developing and driving a focus on business intelligence and information management within the Corporation and

* Being instrumental in Power and Water receiving triple certification in Safety, Environment and Quality Management

Jim sees his legacy as a Manager as 'taking on the difficult challenges and winning through and organisational transformation for the better, with everyone benefiting as a result'.

Jim Bamber was chosen because he demonstrated exceptional management skills during a difficult time of change in his organisation.
His committed customer focus both internally and externally and his ability to share a long-term vision lead to successful outcomes for all parties.

Paul Mahoney,
Chief Executive Officer, Regional and Northern Maintenance Services

Paul is Chief Executive Officer of Regional and Northern Maintenance Services, a company established in 2001 to market the combined skills of 10 local companies targeting larger projects in the defence, resources and infrastructure industries.

During Paul's tenure, RAN MS has grown well outside the initial services of its shareholder companies and revenue has grown from $1.5 million to approximately $7 million in 2006/7.

Paul believes in treating everyone from the cleaner to the chairman in the same manner - they all put one foot after the other on the floor when they get out of bed!. Paul also believes that you should not form an opinion of someone before you know anything about them and that some of the greatest ideas come from the most unlikely of sources.

Judges comments:
Paul was selected because, as the CEO of RAN MS, he has demonstrated an impressive range of highly developed management skills in taking the business through major structural change, coupled with significant growth over the past 12 months.
Paul has shown strong leadership and measured adaptability and is a worthy winner of this category.

Steven Rowe,
Founder and Chief Executive Officer, SRA Information Technology

Steven is founder and Chief Executive Officer of SRA Information Technology. Since starting the company in 1991 - Steven has developed SRA into a recognized provider of information management solutions. SRA has four offices - Darwin, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth which employs over 80 people and is currently looking at opening an office in Singapore.

Steven sees the greatest future challenge for Australian managers as 'Adapting to change in world inter-action, people, generations and technology'.

The best advice he has received during his management career is
'A leader leads … a manager manages'

Judges comments:
The judges advise that Steven has demonstrated strong strategic leadership and management skills within a team oriented environment. Steve has shown he has the ability to inspire his team.
The evolution of Steve's business from a Sole Trader to now employing a staff of 80 is clear proof of his sense of ownership and business commitment.
Steve has identified a niche market and has produced an innovative software package in Envirosys to help grow his business. Steve has shown a strong sense of corporate responsibility through his business involvement with CDU and support of various community organizations.

Katherine Thomson,
Owner/Manager, Energy 2 Go

Katherine is owner manager of Energy 2 Go, a business she started from scratch one year ago.

After completing a Law Degree, Katherine decided that working behind a desk in an office was not for her. She wanted more!!

Katherine's achievements include conceiving the ideas for her business, establishing her own brand identity and awareness and since inception has increased the average spend per head by 25%, while at the same time reducing overhead expenses.

Katherine wants to be known as a prominent Darwin business-woman and would love to see her business develop into an Australia wide franchise.

Judges comments:
Katherine was selected because, as the owner manager of Energy 2 Go, she has shown great determination and vision in establishing her business in a highly competitive market.
Her committed leadership and unremitting energy well qualify her as the Young Manager of the Year
